5. Jesus Before Pilate and Herod

One Comment

  1. “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
This is Jesus’ reply to Pilate, who was rather confused about what the truth was. The religious leaders had brought this man to him, because he had “blasphemed God”, and that he deserved to die. Now he sees no reason to kill him.

Just before this (v36), Jesus said to Pilate: Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”

We must remember, in God’s Kingdom, we don’t fight as the world does. Instead as Paul tells us in Ephesians that our battle is a spiritual one. It is Satan and his forces who is our enemy, and not people.
“For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:12-13)

Jesus had no hate for the people who were about to crucify him, but rather love and forgiveness.
“The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 WEB)

“First of all, I ask that you pray for all people. Ask God to bless them and give them what they need. And give thanks. You should pray for rulers and for all who have authority. Pray for these leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceful lives—lives full of devotion to God and respect for him. This is good and pleases God our Savior. God wants everyone to be saved and to fully understand the truth. There is only one God, and there is only one way that people can reach God. That way is through Christ Jesus, who as a man gave himself to pay for everyone to be free. This is the message that was given to us at just the right time.”
    (1 Timothy 2:1-6 ERV)
