More Kingdom Parables (Mat 13:44-53)

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

Matthew 13:44

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.

The Parable of the Pearl of Great Value

Matthew 13:45-46

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, ⁴⁶who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.”

The Parable of the Net

Matthew 13:47-50

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind, ⁴⁸which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away. ⁴⁹So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked from among the righteous, ⁵⁰and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.”

New and Old Treasures

Matthew 13:51-53

Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.”

⁵²He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”

⁵³When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.

Today’s scripture I asked us to think about is the last of a set of parables:
Matthew 13:52 ISV Then he told them, “That is why every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom from heaven is like the master of a household who brings both new and old things out of his treasure chest.”

Question: What treasures do you have in your storehouse?

Take-aways:

Today I was feel a bit overcome by information overload, so it was time to take a mind break. I remembered a verse I always remember:
“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.” (Isaiah 26:3)

Then I went to today’s scripture and it had a new treasure for me. In the CEV translation it says:
“Every student of the Scriptures who becomes a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like someone who brings out new and old treasures from the storeroom.”

I’ve been a student of the Word for many years and have stored up many treasures from it over the years. When I am in trouble I bring out one of the old treasures and the Lord encourages me. Then when I go to the reading of the day, God gives me a new treasure.

Thank you, Lord, for those old and new treasures.
Psalms 119:11 GW I have treasured your promise in my heart so that I may not sin against you.

WISDOM AS TREASURE:
My son, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you,
So that you incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding;
Yea, if you cry after knowledge and lift up your voice for understanding;
If you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures,
Then you shall understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

BE CAREFUL WITH WHOM YOU SHARE YOUR TREASURES:
Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn around and tear you in pieces. (Matthew 7:6 AFV)

THE STOREHOUSE:
Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and rust spoil, and where thieves break through and steal; But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust spoils, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 AFV)
