Mary’s Song of Praise – the Magnificat
Mary’s Prophecy – Luke 1:51-55
”He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down princes from their thrones. And has exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.
”He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy, As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever.”
Check out Mary’s prophecy. Jesus was most likely still in the embryonic stage here, and she says that through this immaculate conception:
- God has shown strength with his arm;
- God has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts (in their conspiracies);
- God has put down princes (the autocrats, theocrats and technocrats) from their thrones and exalted the lowly;
- God has filled the hungry (those who hunger for the truth) with good things and sent the rich away empty.
- God has given help to Israel, his servant, THAT HE MIGHT REMEMBER MERCY. (God has not forgotten Israel.)
Other Scriptures:
Psalms 2:1-6 ISV
Why are the nations in an uproar, and their people involved in a vain plot? (2) As the kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his anointed one, they say, (3) “Let us tear off their shackles from us, and cast off their chains.”
(4) He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. (5) In his anger he rebukes them, and in his wrath he terrifies them: (6) “I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
Psalms 33:10 ISV
The LORD makes void the counsel of nations; he frustrates the plans of peoples.
1 Peter 5:5-7 WEB
Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
(6) Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; (7) casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
Romans 1:18-25 WEB
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, (19) because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them.
(20) For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse.
(21) Because, knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. (22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, (23) and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.
(24) Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves; (25) who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
1 Corinthians 1:27-31 WEB
* God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise.
* God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong; (28) and
* God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist,
(29) that no flesh should boast before God. (30) Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption: (31) that, according as it is written, “He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”
